"Arbol Galactica" (Galactic Tree) artist Sergio Ariel Pech Cetz
About Wayak Arte Maya: Wayak Arte Maya is Sergio, Daniel, and Reynaldo Pech Cetz - three brothers, and artists, with Mayan roots reaching back as far as family records can see. Originally from Chabihau, a small community on the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of southern Mexico, and now residing in the metropolitan city of Merida, Yucatan, the Pech brothers each embody distinct styles, themes, and personalities in their art. Reynaldo is a self-taught artist, while his two older brothers, Sergio and Daniel, are graduates of the prestigious Yucatan Center for Fine Arts (el Centro Estatal de Bellas Artes de Yucatán). Sculpture, painting, linocuts, and silkscreen printing are some of the primary techniques employed in their works. Together the Pech brothers have shown their works in museums and galleries all over the Yucatan peninsula, as well as internationally, reaching as far as Ethiopia, Argentina, Austria, and England. In addition, their pieces can be found in private collections in Canada, the United States, Cuba, and Australia. Sergio, Reynaldo, and students of their painting classes were participants in Create Plenty's International Plastic Quilt Project in 2010.
